Coffa Scarf

Job type Test knit
Description

Coffa is a Welsh word meaning commemoration, a reminder that the ones we love never really leave us. Every time you put on their favorite sweater or hear their go-to karaoke song, your loved one lives on. For crafters, holding on to these fond memories might include finishing your grandma’s quilt or using up your friend’s yarn stash in a blanket. For me, creating this stitch pattern was a way to bring a bit of comfort to a friend who lost her niece to cancer. Shortly before she passed, Melissa had just learned to knit and was ready to take on a larger project. She bought some nice yarn with a plan to knit a hat and scarf. Sadly, she was unable to start the project, and her aunt didn’t want the yarn to go to waste. The collection of Coffa patterns is a tribute to Melissa and the creativity she wanted to share with the world.

The combination of 1x1 twisted rib and the flowing diamond cable pattern make a warm and stretchy fabric. It may seem daunting to twist every stitch, but you’ll find that working through the back loop becomes rhythmic and meditative. While you may have lost a loved one, knitting this scarf will be a reminder that your lives are forever entwined.

Requirements from the maker

Communication: Above all else, I require good communication from my testers. As soon as you have a question, a problem with the pattern, a suggestion for improvement, or worry you won't meet the deadline, I need to know so we can find a solution together. I also want to hear about your progress on a regular basis (at least once a week) so I know you are on target for the deadline. Make sure to mark your milestones and post about your progress in the chat. If I don't hear from you I can only assume the test isn't being worked on.

Photos: I require at least one, well-lit, clear photo of your finished object. However, the more photos, the better. These photos may be used in social media posts and my newsletter to help promote the pattern. Please include photos on your Ravelry project page.

Social Media: I am looking for testers that can help promote my design on social media by posting about your progress, experience,  and your finished object. You can post progress pictures during the test and finished object photos as soon as you are done. The pattern will be published on February 3rd. I am @just_1_more_thing on Instagram and TikTok, @just1morethingdesigns on the Making App, and @Just1MoreThing on Facebook. Please tag me and use #just1morething and #CoffaScarf in your posts.

Good Notes: I am very flexible about the yarn you use and the size you make, I just ask that you let me know about the modifications you plan to make ahead of time. Please keep notes about which yarn, needle size, gauge, and the yardage used, so you can include them on your Ravelry project page.

Ravelry Project Page: All projects must have a Ravelry Project Page. If you are unable to access Ravelry please let me know and I will send you a google form to fill in your information and I will set up a pattern page on your behalf. In the Pattern Name field please enter the code TEST-JK-KDL29B so your project will be automatically linked to the pattern once it's published. In addition to your notes on yarn, gauge, yardage, needles, and any modifications, please include at least one well-lit photo of your finished object.

Yarn: I am flexible about the yarn that you use for this project and encourage using what you have on hand. If you would prefer to buy yarn for this project there is a 30% discount available from Yarn Social KC for test knitting via this form - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmVnw16U4-3KnYWpjBM5Ksh07GW0QMYifdfbX1COAsz4TMhA/viewform
