Description | This lovely baby blanket was created for an Italian American couple who are expecting their first child. The blanket aims to reflect one feature from the cultures of each parent. The colours are inspired by Italian cuisine (lemons and olives) and the design is based on a traditional American log cabin quilt. It is not, however, worked in separate panels but from end to end with the varied mosaic stitches mimicking the log cabin effect. Mosaic knitting is a simple colourwork technique that uses two colours and slip stitches. Each colour is used for two rows. All stitches that ae slipped on the RS will also be slipped on the WS - both with the yarn at the back of the work. It is strongly recommended that you make a swatch for the vertical stripes. There is a tendency for the fabric to pull in using this stitch so it’s worth practising beforehand. Two skeins of each colour in DK are needed for this. The sample uses Eden Cottage Yarns Oakworth and Pendle. |
