Northern Birch Fiber Arts

Being warm is very important in these cold winter months, especially here in Duluth where we're looking at below temperatures. Knitting for me is not only a chance to share my creativity, but also a necessity. My goal in designing my own knitwear, and hopefully yours as well, is to provide practical yet beautiful pieces that you reach for not only when you want to show off your artwork, but also when you need something to rely on day in and day out. I also crochet, and will definitely be incorporating it into future designs. Either on its own or in combination with knitting or other techniques. I also spin, dye, and process wool from literally fresh off the sheep. I'm far from an expert at any of these processes, but I'm soaking up all of the knowledge I can. My philosophy when knitting and designing the aesthetics is using what you can. I want to encourage people who knit my patterns or other people's patterns to play with it. Make it your own. Use different yarns than the recommended. Adjust the pattern to fit your gauge. Use your own measurements to adjust fit. Change the pattern up or graph your own chart to fit. And I want to make doing so and learning how to do so as accessible as possible within the patterns I design. I'm not revolutionary. Just someone who loves fiber, color, texture, and staying warm... and wants to share that love with all of you.
