Simmer Blink

Job type Test knit
Description

A “simmer blink” is a momentary glimpse of sunshine on a dark, cloudy day. This shawl offers you more than just a moment’s brightness, but it does capture the way green fields and golden sunshine glow against iron grey skies.

Worked from a starting point in mostly garter stitch, with just a few eyelet bands and a simple lace edging knitted as you go, this is constructed as an asymmetric triangle but ends up as a crescent. (Notes are provided on how to keep the shape more triangular – and longer – if you prefer.) It’s a simple but satisfying project, perfect for knitting in public, and a very wearable shawl.

The yarn used is fingering / 4-ply weight. It’s designed to show off a five-miniskein set (5 x 20g) plus one solid skein (100g) but would also work well in two solids, gradient yarns, or with more mini-skeins – notes are included on possible adaptations.

Requirements from the maker

I ask testers to check in regularly (about once a week minimum) to let me know how they're getting on, and to see if any issues have come up from other testers that might affect them. (Although of course I aim to communicate those as fast as possible to all testers.) I also ask for a linked Ravelry project with a photo.

If a tester can't finish the test for any reason (even if they're just not enjoying the knit), they should let me know as soon as possible.

Testers are welcome to share teaser images on social media. They can (but of course don't have to) use the hashtags #simmerblinkshawl and #studiomirandadesigns.

Rewards from the designer

On release, once their projects are linked to the pattern, testers receive a voucher for any pattern from my store. All testers of course also receive the final pattern in their Ravelry library.
