Plicatum Mitts

Job type Test knit
Description

The Plicatum Mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up, with irregular ribbing for the cuff, which flows up into a textured cable pattern on the back of the hand and stockinette on the palm. Increases are worked for the thumb, and stitches are then put on hold. The hand is finished with ribbing that can be worn folded or flat, depending on whether you want warmer fingers or to be able to use your hands more easily. The thumb stitches are returned to the needle and finished in ribbing.

‘Plicatum’ is the Latin word for ‘pleated’, and is used to describe the crinkly leaves of the viburnum plant that inspired the cable pattern in this design.

There is also a matching hat testing at the same time; please see my designer page if you'd like to apply for that one too!
