Lemon Squeezy

Job type Test knit
Description

Worked in the round, Lemon Squeezy contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has instructions for a peasant heel (afterthought heel using scrap yarn), but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using (links included for alternatives).

The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer (ensure you denote your instep stitches with extra markers – so you don’t miss the placement of the heel or toe shaping).

This sock pattern shines well with solid, semi-solid, or lightly-variegated/speckled yarns. Picking an appropriate yarn for this project will ensure you don't lose the fun textures you'll create.

Please ensure you have the required skills BEFORE applying to the test – this is a test knit, not a class or knit along. While it’s lovely to challenge yourself with new skills, it shouldn’t be done at the designer’s expense during a test knit.

Applicants with no Ravelry OR Instagram account information in their Yarnpond profiles, or account information containing no photos of their previous (relevant) knitting projects, will be declined. It's like applying for a job without a resume! πŸ™ƒ

Finished measurements

(Measured around the ball of the foot.)

7.5 [8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11]” / 19 [20.5, 21.5, 23, 24, 25.5, 26.5, 28] cm circumference – intended to be worn with 1” / 2.5 cm of negative ease.  The samples shown were knit using the toe-up version of this pattern on 64-sts.

Gauge 8 stitches by 10 rounds in stockinette = 1” / 2.5 cm, after blocking. Gauge is crucial in obtaining the correct fit. Changes in gauge will result in a size difference for your finished socks.

Requirements from the maker

COMMUNICATION: Strong (and polite!) communication skills are essential throughout the test. All communication is to be via the Yarnpond chatroom. To respect boundaries between work/life balance, I have all notifications for social media platforms turned off and am not accessible. Hostility, overly aggressive, or rude behavior towards myself, or other testers, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

READING: You are expected to thoroughly read through the entire pattern BEFORE getting started.

ERRORS: If you catch a mistake in the pattern, you're to mention it immediately via the Yarnpond chat. I will then verify the issue and update the pattern accordingly.

PROGRESS UPDATES: Weekly check-ins via the Yarnpond chat. It lets me know you haven't gone missing in action during the test.

GAUGE: The tester MUST ensure they're matching the pattern gauge; this helps avoid yardage and final measurement issues. This includes knitting a swatch and blocking it before starting your project, and adjusting your needle size to match the gauge provided. Applying for this test implies you know how to swatch (as that’s a basic skill all test knitters should know how to do).

YARN: If you do not have the same yarn as the sample on hand, it is your responsibility to find a similar substitute of the same weight (and if possible, fiber content), and swatch to ensure gauge. Yarn “approval” isn’t required by me if you’ve obtained gauge and are using the same weight (It’s one less decision I have to make in my busy day 😊). Picking a suitable yarn is ideal, if you’re using a busy yarn with a heavily detailed pattern, you’re not going to show off the design terribly well, so be mindful when selecting your yarn.

RAVELRY: Testers are asked to use Ravelry and create a project page. The page must link up to the pattern via the tester code provided during the test. If you're unable to use Ravelry due to accessibility issues, please note that in your application (your ability to use Ravelry will not dictate whether you'll be accepted to test, it just makes it so I don't bother you about it later on).

KNITTING & MODIFICATIONS: Knit the pattern as written, modifications are unwelcome without consulting with me first via the Yarnpond chat. Generally, if the change doesn't affect the data required from the test, it will be permitted (i.e. the addition of beads). Things that are specifically stated as an option in within the pattern do not require approval from me (i.e. alternate heels, larger shawl, omit beads, etc.)

PHOTOGRAPHY: Photo quality is essential! The tester must be able to take crisp, clear photos that accurately shows off the project.

FEEDBACK: There is a feedback form at the end of the test, filling it out is a requirement of all testers.

SOCIAL MEDIA: You're welcome to share your progress on social media, this isn't a stealth test, I ask that you use #rhyflowerknits #rhyflowertestknit or tag me @rhyflowerknits

DEADLINE: The deadline is set in stone and scheduled into a publication schedule. The tester is required to complete the pair of socks by the specified deadline (includes blocking & photographing).
