Ellen cardigan

Job type Test knit
Description

The Ellen cardigan is worked from the top down. Inspiration for the construction is from the Cokoknits workshop book, with German short rows instead of increases for the back shoulder shaping.

Firstly, the top part of the back yoke is worked back and forth, with German short rows, then the shoulders are worked from stitches that are picked up and knitted along the top of the back yoke. Stitches are then picked up and knitted along the sides of the shoulders to begin shaping the sleeves and the yoke is joined together on the circular needle, and worked back and forth.

The sleeves are placed on hold, while the rest of the body is worked back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round. The trims and button band are worked in double knitting.

Finished measurements

Bust circumference:

84,5 (93,5) 102 (115,5) 124,5 (133,5) 146,5 (155,5) 164,5 cm {33,25 (36,75) 40,25 (45,5) 495 (52,5) 57,75 (61,25) 64,75 inches}

Upper arm circumference:

30 (30) 32 (34,5) 38 (42) 46,5 (50) 53,5 cm {11,75 (11,75) 12,5 (13,5) 15 (16,5) 18,25 (19,75) 21 inches}

Length (from back neck to hem):

51,5 (53) 54 (54,5) 55 (56) 57 (58,5) 59,5 cm. {20,25 (20,75) 21,25 (21,5) 21,75 (22) 22,5 (23) 23,5 inches}

Size guide:

Note that these measurements are only achieved if the correct gauge is kept. Ellen is designed to have approx. 6-12 cm {2,5-4,75 inches} of positive ease. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 71-76 (81-86) 91,5-96,5 (101,5-106,5) 111,5-117 (122127) 132-137 (142-147) 152-158 cm {28-30 (32-34) 36-38 (40-42) 44-46 (48-50) 52-54 (56-58) 60-62 inches}. The measurements for the finished garment are listed on the front of the pattern. Before beginning your project, measure yourself to determine which size to knit. For example, if you measure 84 cm {33 inches} around your bust (or around the widest part of your upper body) you should knit a size S. A size S cardigan has a bust circumference of 93,5 cm {36,75 inches}, which in the given example would give you 9,5 cm {3,75 inches} of positive ease. If you would like a more oversized fit, knit a size larger or a smaller size for a less oversized fit.
