Job type | Test knit |
Description | Dear test knitters, I’m excited to invite you to test knit the Artist’s Sweater! Inspired by popular yet complicated textured stitch sweater patterns, I decided to create a beginner-friendly version. This sweater features a simple yet engaging 12-round repeat: 2 purl rows, 2 seed stitch rows, and 8 knit rows. While the pattern is straightforward, I’m looking for intermediate level knitters to help bring it to life. In the meantime, I’ll be filming a step-by-step tutorial to make this sweater accessible to adventurous beginners. KEY DETAILS: Aran weight yarn (gauge 16 sts x 26 rows in 10 cm). Top-down, seamless construction. Upper back is shaped with M1L, M1pL, M1R, M1pR. Intermediate level (⭐⭐⭐ of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐). Modifications: Feel free to customize the pattern as you like. |

Finished measurements | This sweater is designed with approx. 13-23 cm/ 5-9 inches of positive ease. Check out the chart below to help you decide which size to choose. I wear size S and is 168 cm/ 5’6’’ tall with a 89 cm/ 35” bust circumference. |
Gauge | 16 sts x 26 rows in a 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) piece in pattern stitch on 5.5 mm (US 9) needles (after blocking). |
Charted or written pattern | Both |
Skills required | Intermediate. |
Construction type | The sweater is knitted seamlessly from the top down, starting with back-and-forth rows and then moving to working in the round. It begins at the upper back, gradually shaped with increases on every row. Stitches are then picked up from the shoulders to shape the neckline, and the front and back are joined to continue working in the round. The shoulder seam is slightly shifted toward the back. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up and knitted in the round, with decreases made along the way. Finally, stitches for the neckline are picked up and worked in 1x1 rib. |

You will need: 11-12-12-13-14-16-17-18-20-20-21 50 grams/1.8 oz skeins for your size. Or 902-984-984-1066-1148-1312-1394-1476-1640-1640-1722 yards. Other Yarn Option: Since the yarn isn’t sponsored, any yarn that matches the gauge will work. You could also try DROPS Air or combine two yarns, like a DK or worsted weight with mohair (just be sure to knit a swatch first!) 2. Stitch markers: Several removable stitch markers. Any scrap of thinner yarn (in a contrasting color) or a silicon cord: Use this to hold the sleeve stitches. |
