Wagon Wheel Beret

Job type Test knit
Description The Wagon Wheel Beret is a roomy beret honoring the simple beauty of an ordinary wagon wheel and the textures of the ground over which it travels. This beret is perfect for showcasing solid or semi-solid DK-weight yarn with a bit of texture. The "spokes" of the wheel are worked in k1, p1 ribbing and converge towards the center of the crown. Between the spokes are seed stitch sections. The height of this beret allows for flexibility in how it is worn. I am looking for 2 people to knit each of the 3 sizes, for a total of 6 pattern testers.

Sizes required 1, 2, 3 (model in photos is wearing size 3 and has a head circumference of around 23 inches)
Finished measurements Due to beret shaping, approximate height and width are measured by folding the hat in half at the center of the crown and flattening as much as possible with one of the "spokes" running down the center. Height is measured along this center spoke held down as flat as possible from the bottom of the brim to the center of crown. Width ranges are measured along the very bottom of the brim, by stretching it just enough for it to lie straight against the measuring tape, and then measuring it as far as it can be comfortably stretched. 1 (height 7 in/17.8 cm, width 8.25-9.5 in/21-24.1 cm), 2 (height 8 in/20.3 cm, width 9.75-11 in/24.8-27.9 cm), 3 (height 9 in/22.9 cm, width 11.5-13 in/29.2-33 cm)
Gauge 20 sts / 30 rds to 4 in / 10 cm in blocked k1, p1 ribbing pattern. 18 sts / 30 rds to 4 in / 10 cm in blocked seed stitch* pattern. (*Seed stitch: Round 1: *K1, p1. Repeat from * through end of round. Rounds 2 and on: Knit the purl sts, purl the knit sts.)
Charted or written pattern Written
Skills required Working in the round, knitting, purling, basic increases (kfb), basic decreases (k2tog, p2tog, p3tog, ssk)
Construction type In the round
Required or recommended yarn Approx. 105 (125, 175) yards / 96 (114, 160) meters of DK-weight wool or wool blend. Samples are knit in Ranching Tradition Fiber Tobacco Root Valley (100% Wool; 250 yards / 228 meters per skein). If not using Tobacco Root Valley yarn, semi-solid or solid yarn is preferred (instead of dramatically variegated or speckled yarn).
Tools required Needles: 4mm / US 6 size needles, or whatever size attains gauge. Circular and/or DPN needles may be used depending on preference.
Ownership of the finished item The finished item is yours to keep.
Requirements from the maker 1. Complete milestones on time and complete test knit by test end date, following the pattern as written. (During the test knit period, if any concerns arise regarding the timing of the milestones or the test end date, please contact me ASAP.) 2. Complete final feedback form by test end date. 3. Track yardage carefully and provide this number in final feedback form. 4. While completing test knit, notify me if you have any questions or notice any errors. 5. Create a project page on Ravelry that should be linked to the final published pattern. This can either be done during the test knit using the Ravelry pre-release code, or it can be created within two days of pattern release date on Ravelry. AT MINIMUM, include the following on Ravelry project page: Two well-lit, high quality photos (at least one must be modeled on a person), needle size used, yarn used, yardage.
Rewards from the designer I greatly value the gift of your time and insight. For testers who complete all the requirements on time, I will send a free copy of the final published pattern. As this is my first to-be-published pattern, I do not have other patterns to give at this time, but in future test knits my goal is to give an additional pattern coupon upon successful completion of test knit.
Milestones

The designer has created the following milestones, in order to keep track of progress during the test knit. By marking off each milestone as you complete it, you can easily keep the designer up to date with your progress.

2018-12-30: Completed brim
2019-01-06: Reached first decrease round
2019-01-13: Finished, blocked
